Sponge is an online journal for science fiction and speculative fiction, based in the post-apocalpytic city of Christchurch, New Zealand. We publish short stories, poetry, and reviews of science fiction from New Zealand and Pacific writers, with a particular focus on new and emerging writers.

Our second issue just landed! You can read it online or download it as a PDF, MOBI, or EPUB. We are also releasing an audio version of the issue as our talented authors record it. You can listen to this on our site, or download it for free on our Band Camp page.

Sponge is closed for submissions at the moment but will be opening again in December (with an aim to publish in the new year).

In the mean time, you can subscribe to our mailing list in the footer of the website. We will keep you up to date with issue releases and when we open for submissions. For more regular updates, please follow us on Twitter.

If you have any questions please contact [email protected].

Special thanks to Ivan Ignatov for designing and building this website and to Ben Uffindell for coming up with the name.
